UAE Employment Visa Guide for Africans 2025
The UAE offers employment visas sponsored by employers across Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, and other emirates. Unlike many countries, the UAE has no formal points-based immigration system โ your employer handles the visa process.
Step-by-step guide
- 1
Secure a job offer
All UAE employment visas are employer-sponsored. You cannot self-sponsor unless you are setting up a business or on a freelance permit.
- 2
Entry permit issued
Your employer's PRO (Public Relations Officer) applies for an Entry Permit. Once approved, you travel to the UAE.
- 3
Medical examination
A government medical test (blood test + chest X-ray for TB) is mandatory at a designated UAE health authority facility.
- 4
Emirates ID
Register at a Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (ICA) centre. Biometrics taken. Emirates ID is issued within 2โ5 working days.
- 5
Residence visa stamped
Your employer's PRO stamps the residence visa into your passport. Initial visa: 2 years (renewable). Many companies offer 3-year contracts.
- 6
Bank account & essentials
With Emirates ID you can open a UAE bank account, get a local SIM, and rent an apartment.
